Nafie was studying in Pristina when the ethnic cleansing within Kosova escalated and she had to flee the country. With friends she was able to get to Tirana in Albania. There she met Tatiana, an Albanian woman, who took her in. Nafie stayed with her for over two months. While in Tirana Nafie found out that the rest of her family had also made it over the border to Kukes, and was now living in a refugee camp there.
