Susan Muska and Gréta Ólafsdottir, are award winning documentary producers and directors: The Brandon Teena Story, about a triple homicide in rural Nebraska. Awards for The Brandon Teena Story include The Berlin International Film Festival’s Teddy for best documentary and the Siegessäule Audience Award. The directors were nominated for an Emmy Award for Excellence in Investigative Journalism.
Edie & Thea: A Very Long Engagement, depicts the love story behind the historic Supreme Court case that brought down DOMA, and established the right to marry for same-sex couples in USA. Winner of 26 international and domestic awards. Co-production with The Sundance Channel.
Women, the Forgotten Face of War, follows women and girls displaced during the war in Kosova, documenting what happens to ordinary women whose lives have been ravaged by war. Jury award for best documentary at the Astra International Documentary Festival; part of two year campaign by Amnesty International to stop violence against women. Through the Lens, examines the life and work of Sigrid Zoëga and August Sander. Both pioneer photographers in their own countries. Sigrid was one of the first female photographers in Iceland.These films have had international and domestic broadcast, DVD release, and are featured on streaming platforms.
Co-Producers of La Chana: An award-winning Spanish documentary, directed by Lucija Stojevic (Spain). Follows the legendary flamenco icon La Chana as she fights the demons of domestic abuse, again and disability to make an amazing comeback against all odds.
Susan and Gréta are currently in production of Aftermath, a follow-up 20 years later to their award-winning documentary The Brandon Teena Story, and Full Steam Ahead, an international production about the lives of women working the geothermal energy industry.
